Tethered Oral Tissues (TOTs) are restricted soft tissue (frenula) in the mouth, also known as tongue-tie, lip-tie and cheek-tie. TOTs impact function, growth and development of the jaws, mouth, teeth and airway. TOTs related issues include:
Infants: painful breastfeeding, difficulty breast or bottle feeding, reflux, and failure to thrive.
Children & Adolescents: difficulty swallowing solid foods, speech/articulation problems, orthodontic issues, as well as possible sleep and breathing problems.
Adults: snoring, obstructive sleep apnea, neck tension, and headaches.
At Williamsburg Dental Arts, we use an innovative laser technique different from a snip with scissors. We will remove the full restriction gently and with absolute precision, giving each child the best chance of symptom improvement.
